Viðurkenndur og reyndur jöklaleiðsögumaður tekur á móti þér í höfuðstöðvum okkar í Skaftafelli og kynnir þér vandlega búnaðinn sem við notum– brodda, ísöxi, hjálm og klifurbelti – svo þú sért örugg(ur) og fullkomlega undirbúin(n) áður en ævintýrið hefst.
Við byrjum á stuttum akstri sem tekur þig nálægt jaðri jökulsins sem tryggir að þú notir sem mestan tíma á ísnum sjálfum.
Í þessari Jöklaferð er gengið um framandi landslag þar sem djúpar sprungur, vatnssvelgir og aðrar jökulmyndanir eru skoðaðar á öruggan hátt. Á meðan jöklaleiðsögumaður okkar fræðir hópinn um nærumhverfið gefst nægur tími til að taka myndir og safna minningum.
Hver ferð er meðvitað lítil og persónuleg, fyrir allt að 15 farþega. Þetta tryggir að leiðsögumenn okkar geti boðið þér einstaklingsmiðaða upplifun og deilt víðtækri þekkingu sinni á staðbundnu plöntu- og dýralífi, jarðfræði og jöklafræði.
Leiðsögumaðurinn
Allir jöklaleiðsögumenn hjá íslenskum fjallaleiðsögumönnum eru með Fyrstu hjálp í óbyggðum vottun og hafa lokið krefjandi jöklaþjálfunarprógrammi hjá AIMG (Félag íslenskra fjallaliðsögumanna), námskeiði þróað í samstarfi við virtustu leiðsögumenn og kennara á Nýja-Sjálandi.
Margir leiðsögumenn okkar eru einnig virkir í leitar- og björgunarsveitum og hafa mikla ástríðu fyrir starfinu. Þeir koma ekki aðeins með sérfræðiþekkingu, heldur sjá til þess að fyllsta öryggis er gætt.

Last Saturday I booked a last minute glacier walk - being myself a scuba diving instructor I was not expecting anything too exciting, but I was wrong. Hiking to the top of the glacier is just as good as diving under it - possibly even better. The views from the highest point of the glacier were spectacular and our guide Deividas gave us lots of information about the glacier and the site in general. The group (prob 12 people) was made up of people of different ages and different sizes and some of them were actually scared to do the hike. Luckily our guide was the friendliest, nicest and most down to earth guy we could have hoped for m, and thanks to his brilliant attitude everybody including the seniors got to enjoy the blue ice. Making these amazing natural wonders accessible to everyone - well done, Deividas!

The tour will start with a safety briefing: your guide will familiarise you with the necessary glacier equipment, which, coupled with our unmatched safety standards and small group sizes, ensures that your expedition is both secure and memorable.
The adventure itself starts with a short monster truck ride, taking you right to the edge of the glacier ice and maximising your time spent on the ice.
With the stage set, you'll step onto the icy expanse. A chill of excitement runs through you as the world transforms into an ethereal icy planet. You're now embarking on a journey that takes you further into the glacier, towards exclusive areas that other tour operators can't.
Our certified guides are equipped with the highest glacier training. They will ensure your safety while enriching your expedition with their extensive knowledge of local flora, fauna, geology, and glaciology.
This journey isn't just about the thrill of exploration; it's about respecting the environment we traverse. Our careful approach ensures we leave no trace, preserving these icy landscapes for future generations.

Our Base Camp in Skaftafell is located right next to the service centre.
The park is by the end of road no. 998 that branches off the main road no. 1.
The parking fee (1000 ISK) must be paid at the location and is not included in the price.

Why do I need to arrive 20 minutes before departure time?
Before we head to the glacier for the tour we need to get everyone fitted with the equipment, crampons and harnesses. The crampons need to be adjusted to each persons shoe size so it is important that people arrive 20 minutes before so everyone is ready at the departure time.
What is the address of the meeting place?
There are no official addresses on our meeting points but you can see directions and GPS points if you click the map above.
What is the difference between Sólheimajökull and Skaftafell?
Sólheimajökull and Skaftafell are two different locations in Iceland, each having its own unique characteristics and attractions.
Sólheimajökull is a glacier tongue that extends from the mighty Mýrdalsjökull glacier, Iceland's 4th largest ice cap. It is located on the south coast of Iceland between the volcanoes Katla and Eyjafjallajökull. The area is renowned for its beauty and is perfect destination for glacier hiking and ice climbing due to its easily accessible location and terrain. We offer a variety of tours at Sólheimajökull, which are especially suited for families and those seeking a more relaxed experience.
Skaftafell is a nature reserve located in the Vatnajökull National Park in the south-east of Iceland. It is a green oasis nestled under the white expanse of Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. Skaftafell is a hiker's paradise, with trails leading to stunning attractions and picturesque glacial tongues.
Skaftafell's glaciers are known for their rugged terrain and fantastic views. The tours we operate here are particularly designed for those with an adventurous spirit. If you're a keen hiker or climber, you'll find the challenging landscapes of Skaftafell incredibly rewarding.
How long in advance do I need to book?
We always recommend to book as soon as you are ready especially if you have a strict travel schedule or a large group. It is easy to change or cancel 24 hours before departure by emailing us (info@mountainguides.is). Tours can also be purchased the day of as long as there are spaces available.
